The output of African-American female composers has been hitherto unexplored. Their music has a distinct voice, drawing heavily on the experiences of their history, this large repertory of compositions and arrangements are intense in their emotion and colour.
Combining a cappella and accompanied choral music, and solo song, this unique programme from Ken Burton and the London Adventist Chorale will cover a diverse range of works from classical composition to spirituals and gospel. Among the composers and works represented are Price’s Sympathy , Bonds’ Dream Portraits , Moore’s Three Songs and Osterman’s Walk Together Children , Simpson-Currenton’s How Come Me Here? and Powell’s powerful Still I Rise .
